Nokia Lumia 710 Review

Windows Phone 7.5, codename Mango, is running this device.  And even though it has been out since November of 2011 and I ran it on my previous HTC HD7 as an upgrade of the original Windows Phone 7, I thought I would go over my take on the OS.

Probably my favourite feature overall is the improved Microsoft TellMe Service.  Much like Apple’s Siri it records audio commands and sends it to a server for processing.  It makes launching an app or searching a breeze.  But my favourite is the ability to complete text messaging (SMS) conversations in the car totally hands free.

Sure Apple’s Siri has more fluff.  But things like the weather and your day’s appointments are better served by a quick glance at Windows Phone’s Live Tiles.

Speaking of TellMe, you could always use it to start a Bing search.  And Windows Phone 7.5 brought a lot of new Bing features like vision, which can identify barcodes and similar, audio features that can recognize songs.  Local Scout which can tell you the business around you based on your criteria.

Windows Phone 7.5 brings IE9 instead of IE7, which allows for a better support for HTML5.  Twitter and LinkedIn support arrived.  Better Facebook support including check ins. Visual Voicemail arrived.  Better SkyDrive support especially for Office documents.

In addition 7.5 brings multitasking.  Allow audio to continue playing when you close the 3rd party app.  Or Nokia Drive to resume quickly when you had to interrupt it by a phone call.
