You may disagree

Today, the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously ruled that an Iowa statute limiting marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution. It is a victory for equality and the pursuit of happiness.

While some of you may disagree with the ruling. I urge you to consider that all men are created equal. The US Constitution lays this out as well as our right to the pursuit of happiness. I do have the right to marry the person that I love.

In addition I feel the constitution of the US is firm in its ideal for not one religion to dictate the policies of the United States, rather that freedom of religion is the rule of the land.

“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.” Thomas Jefferson, January 1802

“Strongly guarded as is the separation between Religion and Govt. in the Constitution of the United States…” James Madison 1817

“…religion & Govt. will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.” James Madison 1822

Our goal is not against Christians or any religion. It is that we have equality and can have the pursuit of happiness. I know we can live in harmony together as a united people in pursuit of happiness, freedom, and equality.

In fact, just this week Love Makes A Family, a Connecticut gay rights group disbanded as their objective to bring equality in regards to marriage and adoption have come to fruition in the states of Connecticut. I envision a day when all gay rights groups can disband because we have been equal citizens around the world.

So join in me in supporting equality!
