Have your e-dates reached a stalemate? Still not convinced that they work? Try not listening to a friend's advice!

While friends can be indispensible for helping you choose the right clothes, the right hair, and the right restaurant...what they don't choose in a date or a mate may be just what you're looking for. My own e-dating experience began when a friend asked me to help him choose a potential date. Why not? I thought... I had never given it a try myself, so what better way to see what it was all about then "just helping a friend?"

So there we sat by his computer, perusing page after page of profiles, hoping to find just the right one...for him, of course! We finally decided to each offer our top 3 choices, and pick from those. Then, little by little, we proceeded to pick them apart for one reason or another. Now, the funny thing was, as we each attempted to validate or favourite choices, it became more and more evident which choices were made solely based on superficial qualities, and forced us to look deeper into the profiles for real, tangible, matching qualities.

We had finally narrowed down to just two candidates, and were in the midst of a heated political debate over who would be the winner, when it struck me: Why was I defending this choice so strongly? What was it about this person that made me say "this is the one!"? Because, in looking out for my friend's best interests, I had taken great care insuring that this person possessed all the important character traits for a successful date. This, friends can do best... but when it comes to finding that spark, that certain something in a person's eyes, smile, or other physical feature that makes you say "this is the one"... you can only choose for yourself.

So, as luck would have it, he made his own choice, and thanked me helping him narrow the search. And as for the picture and profile I was sure would be the perfect choice... it was...for me!
